In March 1999 I visited Jakarta & Yogyakarta on the Island of Java as well as the Island of Bali and the Island of Flores where I stayed at the Sea World Club 13 km from Maumere.

The purpose of my visit was to be a volunteer for Canadian Co-oparative Association in Ottawa to assist in the presentation of training programs for the Indonesian Credit Union movement.

Indonesia is a tropical lush green collection of natural and man made wonders. While the islands are a showcase of nature's beauty the real treasure is it's people.

They are a friendly and always smiling mosaic of many cultures woven together in a bond to form what is uniquely Indonesia.

I am happy to present a small collection of my photos of some of the sites of my travels during the course of my 26 days in this wonderful paradise.

I hope to add more photos over time that will include an even wider range of the 'smiling faces of this country'.

Enjoy your stay and the photos.

Mt. Merapi was located about 10 km from where I spent the first 6 days of my work. It is an active volcano and while smoke spewed from it's top 24 hours a day the top glowed at night.

Great food and lots of fresh fruit. So humid that when I started eating the evening meal ( served at 7 p.m) my glasses would steam up. Cafe is located about 40 meters from the waters edge and a great view.

Santika Hotel, Yogyakarta - my home for 13 days

The Santika. A great 4 star hotel located at the center of Yogyakarta with an efficient staff throughout. After being there 13 days I felt it was my home away from home. I remember bringing the staff 2 dozen Dunkin Donuts one day. I thought it was time they put on a couple kilos like I was doing. Always great music in the lounge and Bintang was the beer of choice while I was there.

The rice fields.... this was taken on the road back down the mountain from my trip to Marsudi Mulyo Credit Union. My first view ever of rice field ( but not the last on this trip).
